We would rather avoid the need for dental treatment than deal with a dental problem, but there are times when decay will occur regardless of how well you clean those back teeth. This is especially true for children’s teeth, so sealing these deep grooves to prevent decay is a useful strategy. Detecting any early damage allows us to clean and seal the groove before a cavity exists.
Once a cavity is in a tooth, we will need to drill right through the enamel to remove the decay in the tooth and place a filling. This means that the tooth is always weaker. The tooth will never be as strong for the rest of your life as if it were intact and perfect.
